MaryAnn's experience during the economic downturn in 2005 inspired her to create a website that helps people cook healthy meals without overspending. She grew up in Bolivia where homemade meals were a way of life and her mother taught her the value of budgeting and not wasting food. After forgetting this lesson while living in the US, the economic downturn brought her back to her senses and inspired her to help others save money on food and get organized with their cooking.

MaryAnn started her channel in 2008, showcasing over a thousand budget-friendly recipes. Today, she is committed to teaching people how to use food for better health and completed her functional nutritionist certification in 2022.
