It was a rainy & wet Friday morning over here in New York. Not the best start of a working day but hey, we can’t control nature. I managed to reach my office on time and everything seemed to be in order. Until, I failed to open up number of our eCommerce sites managed by Shopify & BigCommerce. Our online marketplace store at Rakuten was also inaccessible.
To make matter worse, I figured PayPal wasn’t working either. It also meant we are not in Business in online. Most of our online orders gets processed through PayPal. Even though it wasn’t the only option we have but shutting down PayPal meant we are out of business until Monday. It felt like the whole system is crumbling down one after another.
I looked for news, if there is anything mentioned in online about this sudden shut down of so many sites. I found so many of them, I had no doubt in my mind that the U.S. is under cyber attack. I informed my boss about the whole thing and moved on to working on something else.
But frankly speaking, almost 95% of my overall work requires me to work with all these sites. So basically when these sites are down, I got barely anything to do. I started working on our inventory management system and spent the whole day changing and upgrading the codes. Overall it was a very lazy day at office.
Almost all the major news site focused on this attack. Just in case if you are not aware of this story, you can find more info on this from the links provided below. This is not the first time U.S. is being attacked and I am pretty sure it isn’t the last time either. God Bless America.
